Lend me your hand, Habibi
Winters were long and 25
Lend me your hand, Habibi
Hold me warm
Lend me your hand, Habibi
It’s a long cold night
Lend me your hand, Habibi
Winters were long and 25
Lend me your hand, Habibi
Hold me warm
Lend me your hand, Habibi
It’s a long cold night
She wants to touch him
He asks, ‘Can I touch her?’
his eyes on someone
Despair clinches her affection
Untaken words call in the air.
Burnt, she consents: but one day,
perhaps, she will let him strip
her life of its affection
till all warmth turns cold
Impermanence spreads icy cold wings
death creeps in at unexpected moments
dark shadows loom in every man
a heart can only wonder and wander
to find substance in a sunless life
His beauty unclouded by malice-
put every woman to shame,
given a chance, every man
would kill him, with envy
The well-defined nose,
pale lips and sad eyes
ruffles of black hair
had my heart throbbing
My eyes dawdled on him
a magnetic pull fixed on his face
just a touch of his hand
would have been enough
His beautiful face frequented my heart
wanting to see him more
I stalked my memories
to catch a glimpse of him
I found him on the cold winter ground
his black hair white with snow
his sad eyes forever frozen
an empty bottle in his hardened hand
Tears from my eyes
froze on his iced cheek,
dropping next to his cold body
I gently kissed his dead blue lips
One touch will get me through this winter.
He emerges from a hole in the ground
and yes he is all black
no no no
he isn’t a rabbit or a mouse
don’t mistake his blackness
as ugliness of his soul
even if his lungs are smeared black
he helps the world stay warm
he drills the ground like his life
he fills his lungs with dirt
to fed his wife and son
whom he returns to at night
with pride and love
without washing or dining
he blows his dirt filled lungs
at the fire place
so his family stays warm
so the world keeps moving and
you feel his presence
in your life
if you ponder enough
for without the coal miner
and his soothing face black
his family would be wasted
the world would be cold
